Tree services · Stump grinding
The tree comes down. The stump should not stay behind.
Stump grinding can be added to any Artmire's job, so the cut ends where you want it to end: at ground level, with nothing left to trip over, sprout or shelter pests.
A stump is a cut that never finished
When a tree is taken down, the part people notice is gone and the part that causes trouble is still there. A leftover stump is a nuisance and a safety hazard, and it invites pests, which is why Artmire's offers stump removal as an option on every tree removal.
Done properly, the stump is removed completely and the space it held in your yard comes back to you. Grinding is the step that gets there without digging up the lawn around it.

What a stump costs you when it stays
Rotting wood is where pests settle. Carpenter ants and other wood-borers do not care that the tree above the stump is gone, and a stump close to a house or fence line gives them somewhere to start.
Many species keep sending up shoots from a living stump for years, which means you pull the same sprouts out of the lawn every season. A grinder takes the source of that regrowth out with the stump.
Then there are the plain hazards: a low stump hidden in grass is something a child, a dog or a mower finds before you do. Grinding it below ground level lets the mower pass over where the blade used to catch.

Field note · below the surface
What you see is the small part.
A removal is finished when the lawn is a lawn again. Stump grinding is the last cut of the job, and it is the one that decides whether you get your yard back or only a cleaner-looking obstacle in it.
If the tree is still standing and you are weighing what to do with it, start with the removal page. If it is already down and the stump is what is left, the stump removal page walks through how we grind it, step by step.
